Beat the Elite Four in Pokémon FireRed

This how-to contains some good tips to help you defeat Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha, Lance, and Clark. You can overcome your fear of facing the Elite Four, because in reality they aren't too hard to beat, with a little work!

Steps

  1. Make sure all of your Pokémon are above level 60. The Elite Four's Pokémon are in the 60's and lower to middle 70's, so if you keep your Pokémon higher it will be an advantage. Of course, train your Pokémon well with high stats and moves that best fit the Pokémon you will face.
    • Have your Pokémon hold an Exp. Share, to help it gain experience, and to get stronger.
    • If you have a Lucky Egg, have a Pokémon hold that in order to gain experience faster.
  2. Stock up on Revives, Hyper Potions, Full Restores, Max Potions, Full Heals, and PP Ups. It will cost you a lot, but you be winning money back from the elite four!
    • To gain money, it's best to hold an Amulet Coin.
  3. Have a good knowledge of types. Look to the tips below to see what types are effective against the Elite Four's Pokémon.
  4. Save before and after every match. If you lose, you can soft reset. Also, after a battle, restore your Pokémon to full health.
  5. You don't need all of the legendary birds as they are all Flying. Starmie, Arcanine (or Ninetales for Leaf Green) or Raichu would be good substitutes.
  6. Have several types in your party.

Tips

  • Worried about Lance's Dragon Pokémon? Ice-types and Dragon-types are good on Dragon.
  • Have at least one Pokémon with good defensive stats that can take a few hits. These Pokémon can be used to help heal your other Pokémon, or slowly whittle your opponents down by stalling.
  • The best types to have are Water, Ice, Psychic, Ghost, Fire, and Electric.
  • Your starter Pokémon affects the Elite Four! Your starter should not only be your strongest and highest level but also affects the Elite Four Champion's Pokémon. If you started with a Bulbasaur, he will have a Charizard and Exeggutor as well as his other Pokémon. Same goes with the other starters.
  • The second time you fight the Elite Four, their Pokémon are a few levels stronger and have better moves. Some, like Agatha and Lance, will have different Pokémon. Others like Bruno will have evolved Pokémon. So be careful and adjust your Pokémon accordingly.
  • Have your Pokémon hold an item before you go to battle.
  • Don't rely on just offense. Moves like Swords Dance or Dragon Dance to increase your Attack, or status moves such as Toxic and Thunder Wave, can be very effective in crippling your opponents.
  • After you beat the Elite Four once, go back again, and battle to get stronger.
  • Train your Pokémon at Victory Road because the are many Pokémon with high levels in there.

Warnings

  • When the Elite Four's Pokémon HP is in the red zone, they will use Full Restore most of the time. Watch out for that.
  • Lance uses Hyper Beam and Outrage whenever he can, especially with his Dragonite. Make sure to keep lots of Hyper Potions and Full Restores with you, and if you aren't too badly affected you can strike back while the Pokémon recharges.
  • Be ready, and follow the tips above. The Elite Four is something to watch out for- they aren't called the Elite Four for nothing!
