Become a Female Rapper
Do you want to be a female rapper? Spit rhymes like Lil Kim, Brianna Perry, or Nicki Minaj? This article shows you step by step how to be an amazing female rapper!
Steps
- Start with confidence. You won't get anywhere without a positive attitude on life. Remember, lots of female rappers didn't accomplish their popularity right away.
- Practice ALL the time. Keep a composition notebook handy. This will be your "Book Of Rhymes."
- Have inspiration. Know your favorite rappers, and look up to them. They started at the bottom, too.
- Hang out with people who are interested in rapping. Ask them if they like to rap, who their favorites are, etc. They can help you in the long run.
- Perform at gigs when you have an adequate amount of material to work with. This gives you the opportunity to work on stage presence, as well as exposing your music to new people.
- Create a YouTube account and post videos of your best raps and freestyles. In fact, utilise all types of social media, such as Twitter/Tumblr/Facebook to expand and build a rapport with your fan base.
- Take criticism. Ask others what they think and ask your friends to check it out. You want a fan base, yes, but you want some criticisms to help you grow in your career.
- Have a mentor. Maybe a sibling, or a friend. Ask them for their opinion on things, and ask how they could make it better.
- Find studios where you can record your music. Make a demo/ recording of your best freestyles and songs. You can even record high quality material at home with music software you can find online.
- Make sure to promote your music as much as you can. Make sure to mention you're a rapper when talking to new people.
- Take up a real dope stage name that will represent who you are as a rapper.
- Choose a style that fits you. You will get judged on your appearance as a female, so put in some thought as to what you wear. Your outfit should match your style.
Tips
- If you're really young and you don't have the equipment, let your friends and family know that this is what you want to do or pursue as a career. Their support will only encourage you.
- Don't be a fake. Make sure your lyrics come from the heart, and never intentionally steal beats from an already existing song. Even remixes should be original and fresh.
- Try your absolute best! There are going to be haters who are going to put you down because you're a female, because they're jealous, there are many possible reasons. But brush it off like dirt on your shoes, since no matter what you do, somebody's always gonna talk smack so just do you!
- Don't hate on your haters. That just shows that they got to you.
- If you need beats for your songs you can go on youtube and search hip-hop instrumentals for free beats.
- Set up a Youtube account for your work, the internet is a very useful tool for starting your rapping career.
- Don't let the misogynistic rap music take away your confidence. Just because a lot of rap music disrespects women, doesn't mean that women shouldn't rap. Heck, you could even protest misogynistic lyrics.
- Don't try to copy your favorite artist. It's a good idea to find your style now. As you're career develops you'll need to develop a style and find yourself. Just be original.
Warnings
- Don't be fake and stuck up. That junk isn't cute.
- Ignore people when they say "You can't do it!" In fact, try to cut negative people out of your life because in a career like this, you want a positivity around you.
- What will get you the furthest is if you rock your own style. Do things your own way and take control.
- Never start beefs, it's not worth it. The time spent on beefing could be put to better use, like focusing on your own career.
