Become a Fine Artist

Most people have some artistic or creative abilities. Find your own path, do not let anyone else tell you whether your art is "good" or "bad." There is no such thing as good or bad art, if it comes from your heart, and everyone has a distinct style to their work. If your passion is in the visual arts, there are many steps you can take to improve your skills and satisfy your desire to be expressive. Being "amazing" as an artist requires more than just following your passion.

Steps

Preparing Yourself

  1. Seek guidance from experienced artists. Your skill and talent when polished by people who already have made a mark may help you reach your greatest potential. By finding a teacher, mentor, class or other source of teaching to help you improve and grow, you will give your art a chance to unfold more deeply and reach greater heights.
    • Check the mentors credentials. You must know the one teaching/ tutoring/ mentoring you. Make friends with other artists. Learn from their experience while sharing yours. Find out their qualifications, prior exhibitions, awards and experience as a capable teacher- not just an artist.
  2. Choose good quality materials. The best tools and materials will help you work freely. Then you can allow yourself to be inspired and motivated to follow your passion without worrying about your supplies. It should be a pleasure to use, and should help you to feel both competent and confident. If this means saving up, do so; your art is worth the effort. However, don't get carried away by this. It's what moves you is what will look like fine art and not just your utensils.
    • Instructional reference books are very useful. Use books written by experts in the field as one of your guiding tools. You can learn a lot from their experience. Even if these books aren't teaching you how to create what you want to make, it's a great way to improve your technique.
  3. Enroll yourself in a reputed art class. Get formal training from a credible school. If this is not affordable, then try at a local institute or college. Ask what courses they offer? Usually there is something to suit everyone's needs. It's also a great way to meet like minded individuals who are passionate about art.
    • Do not compare yourself to other artists. They may be way ahead of you simply because of experience. Also, just because someone's style is more creative than your's does not mean you are not creative enough. It could take time to be a good artist, including finding your style, mastering techniques, and having good knowledge of materials.
  4. Visualize your art. Before you make, something, try to visualize its aspects. Your imagination is where dreams are born. It is where your artistic self is allowed to run free. Find places and spaces where you love doing your art. Ask your friends or family for ideas. This will give you a boost and help you stay in tune with your art.

Bringing Out Your Talent

  1. Paint and take photographs of what you love, of what appeals to you! Why not experiment with nature, everyday objects or people? Turn this talent into something extraordinary. It depends on commitment, knowledge of art, technique, constructive criticism, and standing apart from other artists.
  2. Relax and let your mind and hands work together. Don't limit yourself with does this look right until you have really given the work some serious effort. Think of it as layers which need to be added to complete the entire composition. Use this to help your art evolve to the level it deserves. Not all images need to be bright and beautiful, images showing real emotion and sorrow are a part of life.
  3. Keep at it. It is only through practice and perseverance that you will sharpen the edges, and strengthen your abilities. All your effort will pay off, and you'll simply know that the art you're producing is admirable. Being a fine artist takes effort. Keep practicing your craft. Do artwork everyday if possible, even if its only for an hour. Always remember to practice! Make time every day to work on your skill.
  4. Never give up! You can be frustrated but bounce back, as skills like drawing often take time and patience. Not everyone pucks up at the same speed! Keep learning as there's always something you didn't know or hadn't tried that can be improved. Be open minded. Not every style of art is for everyone, you may even come across some art styles that you find upsetting or offensive. Why not try to warm up to the style by creating your variety? You may still not become a fan of that style, but you'll have atleast tried something new.
