Become an Architect in India
In India, one needs to take various entrance examinations to get an admission into an Architecture College.
Steps
- Learn about the various entrance exams that'll help you get an admission into an Architecture College.
- JEE Main (Paper 2) - Join Entrance Exam (Paper 2) is an All-India entrance exam for B.Arch course in various Architecture colleges in India.
- JEE Main (Paper 2) consists of 2 parts: Part 1 (Objects, Textures, Visualizing, Reasoning, Mental Ability, etc) and Part 2 (3D - perception).
- JEE Main (Paper 2) is a pen-and-paper based exam which generally takes place on the 1st Sunday of April.
- JEE Main (Paper 2) will allow you to apply for B.Arch course in NITs and SPAs.
- JEE Main (Paper 1) - The Paper 1 part of the JEE Main is generally for B.Tech/ B.E aspirants. However, if you clear JEE Main (Paper 1) and then clear JEE advanced, you may get admitted to IIT Roorkee or IIT Kharagpur.
- National Aptitude Test for Architecture (NATA) - "National Aptitude Test for Architecture" or NATA as it is popularly called is a test of 200 marks and you need to get at least 80 marks to pass. The score is calculated by the admitting colleges by adding 50% of your Board marks and 50% of your NATA marks.
- JEE Main (Paper 2) - Join Entrance Exam (Paper 2) is an All-India entrance exam for B.Arch course in various Architecture colleges in India.
- Apply for the desired entrance exam(s). Form submission for the entrance exam generally starts about 5-6 months before the date of the exam. Submit the necessary documents (photographs, school-leaving certificate, 12th standard results, etc) either online or offline.
- Prepare for the exam(s). Practice sketching and drawing as much as possible. Also read books about 3D objects, textures, landscapes, etc.
- Collect your hall-tickets from designated centres and appear for the exam.
- Wait for the result (generally a 2-3 weeks after the date of the exam); and see if you have made it to the merit-list/ selected list of your desired college.
- Complete your admission by filling out the necessary forms (at the selected college) and pay the fees.
