Build a Fort Using Recycled Materials
Need a special spot? Building a fort with recycled materials can be a lot of fun. Here's how:
Steps
- Decide upon a design.
- Will it be a secret place just for you to relax?
- Will it be a clubhouse for everybody?
- Will it be a place for you and a few of your friends only?
- Find materials. Be crafty.
- Gather a few sturdy branches from the woods.
- Try old planks or plywood for the walls and a tarp for the roof.
- Someone may have an old carpet.
- Cover a window opening with old screening. Consider old fabric for a door.
- Find a location. Find a group of trees in a quiet spot in the woods or at the far end of the backyard.
- Assemble the fort.
- Attach several sturdy branches horizontally from one tree to another.
- Attach old planks or plywood to the Build a Cabin or Fort Entirely out of Branches, leaving openings for a door and windows.
- Attach a tarp as a roof, if desired.
- Continue to add on. Reinforce and add materials as you find them. Add a plywood roof.
Tips
- Screws hold up better than nails, but it's easier to use nails.
