Build a Fort Using Recycled Materials

Need a special spot? Building a fort with recycled materials can be a lot of fun. Here's how:

Steps

  1. Decide upon a design.
    • Will it be a secret place just for you to relax?
    • Will it be a clubhouse for everybody?
    • Will it be a place for you and a few of your friends only?
  2. Find materials. Be crafty.
    • Gather a few sturdy branches from the woods.
    • Try old planks or plywood for the walls and a tarp for the roof.
    • Someone may have an old carpet.
    • Cover a window opening with old screening. Consider old fabric for a door.
  3. Find a location. Find a group of trees in a quiet spot in the woods or at the far end of the backyard.
  4. Assemble the fort.
    • Attach several sturdy branches horizontally from one tree to another.
    • Attach old planks or plywood to the Build a Cabin or Fort Entirely out of Branches, leaving openings for a door and windows.
    • Attach a tarp as a roof, if desired.
  5. Continue to add on. Reinforce and add materials as you find them. Add a plywood roof.
