Build a Model Lighthouse

Lighthouses are amazing structures. For any avid model-builder, a lighthouse is a must for your collection. Even if you aren't really a fan of building models, you may find building a lighthouse enjoyable.

Steps

  1. Gather materials. See "Things You'll Need."
  2. Paint the oatmeal container.
    • Some lighthouses are one solid color.

    • Others have a stripe in the middle.

    • You could always go with the classic swirly pattern lighthouse.

    • Don't be afraid to get creative! If you want, you can make your lighthouse neon orange with purple polka dots!
  3. Once the paint is dry, draw windows and a door on the lighthouse with a permanent marker.
  4. Crumple up the tissue paper into one big ball. This will be the light of the lighthouse.
  5. Put a dab of glue on the bottom of the ball.
  6. Place it onto the middle of the top (covered side) of the container.
  7. Press down on the ball to make sure it's glued on securely.
  8. Put some glue on the rim of the open side of your plastic container.
  9. Position it over the ball of tissue paper.
  10. Press down on it. Again, this is to make sure it stays on right.

Tips

  • Try making a lighthouse model of a real lighthouse!
  • Look at pictures of real lighthouses for inspiration.

Warnings

  • Make sure the paint is completely dry before drawing the windows and doors!
