Build a Poetry Business

Short answer: Don't  :)Because (almost) no poets earn enough to live of it.Much better chance if it had been poultry business  :)In a related occupation though, it's some better chance, but still very hard =Some music text writers.Some poetry can suit to get melody and become a song text. The following is about earning at music texts.

Steps

1. Decide which music style you have texts suiting too already, or want to write to.
2. To be a song writer you need to know/learn some basic rules concerning music such as e g amount of verses and choruses needed. They are different for different music types, so check what can suit the music style you want to write to.
3. When you write, you need to check if the text in DIFFERENT verses can follow SAME melody.If you don't cooperate with a music composer, you can use an already done melody, or just make up one yourself.  The melody DON'T need to be good   :)   it's just needed to see if text length and the accentuation in different verses can be same.   It's needed, because not good if the singer need to sing e g "hone'y" instead of "ho'ney"    :)
4. When you have done a text you find good,then test it at some people you know, who tell you the TRUTH, if they find your text being crap :)It's best if they have some music knowledge, so they can give CONSTRUCTIVE criticism if needed.
5. When you have done one/some texts, which you find being of PROFESIONAL quality, then it's time to try to get it approved.Do you know anyone in the music business?    If so, start there, because it's very hard to get approval from music companies, composers or (established) music artists.  You need to write for an established artist to get chance to earn more than peanuts.Internet have added some possibilities, but much harder to get a text noticed by suiting people than a song with music.
6. When getting a song with your text recorded, then it's time to get pay   :)A/ Some agree to get a STATIC sum UNDEPENDING of how many/few of the recording is sold.B/ Some agree to get pay DEPENDING of many/few of the recording is sold.  Such pay can be e g through /the music publisher /or through the national organisation, which keep order of such (in the countries, which have this second). Normally you have to REGISTER in that organisation to get any money from there. They keep order of and demand money from "everywhere" including music played in supermarkets and radio.
