Buy a Classic Corvette

Purchasing a classic Corvette can be contingent on how far away you are willing to purchase a vehicle from and/or how much you want to spend. If you live in a larger metropolitan area, though, finding the perfect car may be as easy as opening the newspaper or making a few calls. However hard you have to look, though, to find and buy a classic Corvette, locating the perfect year and color for your needs will make the search well worth it.

Steps

  1. Pick up your local classified ads and search both the automobile personal classifieds and the automobile advertising section. If you are lucky, you might find the vehicle close to home, which will save you time and cost for shipment or delivery.
  2. Search websites for your classic Corvette as another option to locate your vehicle. There are many sites that allow you to search a broader range of states or countries to locate the classic Corvette that you desire.
    • Auto Trader Classic is one vehicle search engine site. When landing on the homepage, click on the "Find Cars, Parts, or Services" button. This will bring up a section that allows you to input the year range, make, model and distance you are willing to look for a vehicle. Once those fields are plugged in, hit the "Go" button, and check out your results. This will bring up a page that allows you to see photographs, prices and location of the car. You can also choose up to three vehicles to compare, which brings them up side-by-side in a rundown of all of the key features, including price, of the vehicle.
    • ClassicCars.com is another vehicle search engine site. The homepage has a "Buy/Search/Browse" section where you can fill in the pertinent fields for your classic Corvette search. Once you have filled out the appropriate tabs, hit the "Search" button to retrieve your car options. Their listings show year, asking price, and a photograph as well as a few lines of seller details about the vehicle.
    • If you are wanting to search internationally, Classic Cars For Sale out of the United Kingdom has an international search system that will let you find classic Corvettes in multiple countries. On the left side of the homepage, is a "Buy A Classic" section that allows you to input the Make, and then type in "Corvette" into the "and/or KEYWORDS" field.
    • You can contact a Classic Corvette Specialist like CC Classic Cars to provide a PPI (Pre-Purchase Inspection). There’s a lot of fraudulent Classic Corvettes that claim to be a superior trim package than they originally were. A Classic Corvette Specialist knows what to look for to confirm authenticity.
  3. Look for a regional trade magazine. These are generally sold at gas stations, and many of these are the print version of their online counterpart. Most are printed regionally, so the vehicles that you are looking at in their classifieds are within a few hours driving distance.
  4. Contact the seller directly for questions or to make an offer on the vehicle once you have located the classic Corvette that you would like to purchase. Arrangements will need to be made for transport or delivery as well as payment agreed upon.
  5. Finished.

Tips

  • If purchasing a vehicle from an American source, you would be wise to consult the Kelley Blue Book to make sure that you are not overpaying for the car. The Kelley Blue Book is a trusted American resource for the valuation of vehicles.

Warnings

  • An authentic numbers matching drivetrain can increase a Classic Corvette’s value by 40-50% or the value could be decreased if the numbers aren’t matching.
