Buy the Perfect Gift on a Budget

As prices soar, budgets diminish. Here are a couple of ideas that anyone can use to buy anyone a perfect gift.

Steps

  1. Go to your local Dollar store and have a good look around.
  2. Buy baskets.
  3. Keep a close eye on the tally as you pick up items.
  4. Think of each individual and buy things specifically for them.
  5. Consider a gift card. These can be purchased in any denomination. Generic cards like Amazon gift cards allow the recipient to purchase almost anything they want. For a more personal touch, consider a gift card to a less well-known restaurant you've discovered. Or you can choose something really unique and creative like a Use Zidisha person-to-person microlending gift card. A $25 Use Zidisha gift card doesn't cost much but the recipient can use that amount to help change the life of a loan beneficiary in Africa or Asia, and actually dialogue with the loan recipient on its impact.

Tips

  • Teen boys: CDs, movies, gift certificates to the local movie theater, Axe body spray and shower gel, etc.
  • Mom who love to read and cups of tea, buy her a lovely coffee/tea mug, a couple of paperbacks, some nice cookies and individual tea bags from the grocery store and put them all in a basket, wrap it up in that colored film paper you can get and put a bow on it.
  • For a brother-in-law who is crazy for Harley Davidson, get him a Harley mug, a little diecast Harley model, some warm gloves (NOT motorcycle gloves) and a long scarf. Wrap it all up in a basket.
  • Make a "shopping list" with each individual's name as a heading. Think of what they really like and try to shop specifically with that in mind.
  • For a mother-in-law who loves to knit, get her some wool, some knitting needles, a nice easy pattern and wrapped them up in a basket.
  • These gifts are so welcome. They show that you have put real thought and energy into each gift. But they did not cost you a fortune.
  • For little ones, the same thing applies. A basket full of coloring books, sticker books, stickers, pencils with their names on them, mittens, hats, scarves, sweater perhaps are perfect apparently.
  • Teen girls: Nail polish, a CD of their fave band, a movie (Stores like Target or Walmart tend to sell DVDs quite cheaply), hairbrush & comb set, pens with their names on them, etc.
  • Female Co-Worker: Candles, bath beads, small figurines, tea towels, a package of assorted herbal teas, teacup/coffee mug, biscuits, the latest magazine they like, etc.
