Cancel a Recurring Payment in PayPal
Canceling a recurring payment in PayPal can be a little tricky. To cancel a recurring payment in PayPal as a customer or a merchant, follow these instructions.
Steps
As a Customer
- Log in to your PayPal account.
- Go to Profile > More Options.
- Go to My Money.
- Find My Preapproved Payments and click on Update.
- Find the merchant whose recurring payment you want to terminate. You may need to modify the timeframe or select View All from the drop-down list to find the merchant.
- Click Details and cancel the recurring payment. The cancel button can be found under the vendor/merchant name. This selection does cancel the recurring payment. You get a warning that once selected you will be cancelling the vendor profile with a disclaimer that once selected the profile can not be reactivated (thru pay pal you must go thru the vendor site).
As a Merchant
- Log in to your PayPal account.
- Go to My Account > Overview.
- Scroll down to Tools and select Recurring Payments.
- Under Activity, find the recurring payment profile you want to terminate. You may need to modify the timeframe or select All Activity from the drop-down list to find the profile.
- Click Details and cancel the recurring payment. Follow the online prompts.
Tips
- Note that this is not quite the same as canceling a subscription. Read How to Cancel a PayPal Subscription for detailed instructions.
Warnings
- This will not relieve you from payments you may owe under any contract you have already signed.
