Delete a Paypal Account

Ready to close that PayPal account for good? You can do so through the PayPal website by taking a few easy steps. Once you close your PayPal account, you won't be able to reopen it. Read on to learn how to close your PayPal account or remove it from "limited" status before shutting it down.

Steps

Closing Your Account

  1. Log in to your PayPal account. Enter your username and password on the homepage.[1]
  2. Check that your account doesn't have any pending transactions. You want to make sure you aren't still in the process of sending or receiving money when you close your account.
  3. Transfer any money still in the account to your bank account. This process can take 3 or 4 business days to complete, depending on your bank's procedures. Check that that has proceeded smoothly before closing the PayPal account.
  4. Go to your account page. First click on "My Account," then click on the Profile sub-tab.
  5. Select your settings. You will see an inset beneath the words "My Profile. Click on the words "My settings."
  6. Click on the "Close Account" link. It that is located in the "Account Information" row.
  7. Follow the verification prompts that come up. You'll need to select the reason you're closing your account from a provided list.
  8. Finish closing your account. When you've verified everything, and you are sure you want to close your account, click the "Close Account" button.

Removing an Account Limit Before Closing

  1. Log in to your PayPal account. Enter your username and password on the homepage.
  2. Click the "My Account" tab.
  3. Click the "Resolution Center" link. It'll be at the top of the page.
  4. Look over the list of documents PayPal is requesting. Your account may be limited because you've tried to link it with an unverified bank account or for another reason. Until you provide the missing information, you won't be able to lift the limit and close your account.
  5. Send the documents to the PayPal resolution center. You must mail or fax the documents, rather than sending them over email.
  6. Wait to regain account privileges. It can take about a week for PayPal to process your documents and lift the limit.
  7. Close the account. Go to your account settings and follow the instructions for closing your account.

Pending Inputs and Closing

  1. If the above methods don't work, this may be due to have pending inputs.
  2. Go to the Help/Contact us. This will enable you to email the company.
  3. Infill the information. There will be two input lines:
    • Select My Account in first line.
    • Select Close PayPal account in second line.
  4. It will direct you to a closing window.
  5. Answer the questionnaire tactically.
  6. Continue and close your account.

Warnings

  • If you close your PayPal account, it can’t be reopened. Any scheduled or incomplete transactions are canceled. You can’t close your account if there are limitations, unresolved issues, or a balance.
