Catch Giratina in Pokémon Pearl or Diamond

To all Pokémon lovers who have been thinking there's got to be more legendary Pokémon then just Palkia and Dialga, there is. The strongest wild Pokémon in the game.... Giratina! Read this article to find out how to catch Giratina. Pokémon you encounter will be at level 52-65, and Giratina will be at level 70- bring high level Pokémon!

Steps

  1. Beat the Elite Four.
  2. Fill up your Pokedex, then get a National Pokedex from Professor Rowan.
  3. Make sure that you have access to Route 214.
  4. Buy Dusk Balls, Timer Balls, Quick Balls, and Ultra Balls or use the ones you already have. Bring your Master Ball if you have one. Have high level Pokémon that are at least level 50 or higher.
    • You'll be in a cave, so Dusk Balls are very good balls to use to catch Giratina. Ultra Balls work well, too.
  5. Have Pokémon that know the moves Rock Smash, Surf, Rock Climb, and Defog. A good Pokémon to use is a normal/flying Pokémon like Staraptor because Giratina's offensive moves (apart from Slash) won't hurt it. This comes in use because Giratina's move (Shadow Force) is also very powerful.
  6. Search the route for a passage called Spring Path. You will only be able to access this path after you receive the National Pokedex.
  7. Follow the passage to Sendoff Spring.
  8. Make your way through the grass, you will find a wall you can climb up using Rock Climb. Go around in a circle through the grass until you find a wall you can climb down with Rock Climb. Enter the cave at the bottom of the wall.
  9. Enter the cave called Turnback Cave. It is called this because once you enter a room from another, if you come back the way you came, you won't end up in the same room you came from. It can be very confusing as it is a maze.
    • You need to find your way past three pillars in the cave before you go through thirty rooms. If you encounter a pillar, it will tell you how many pillars you've passed (the number on the top) and the number of rooms you have been through (the number on the bottom.) Thirty rooms is a lot to go through and many people make it past three pillars and to Giratina before reaching that.
  10. Once you pass the third pillar, you can go through any door. It will automatically lead you to Giratina. Giratina will be standing there in a mighty way. Talk to it. The battle will ensue.
  11. Get its health down as much as you possibly can. It can be in the yellow, but getting it in the red is recommended. Try not to faint it. Ice, Ghost, Dragon and Dark type moves are very effective. Use Fire, Water, Electric, Bug, Grass and Poison type moves to get the health down slowly so you won't make Giratina faint.
  12. Once it's considerably weakened, you can either put it to sleep or you can just start throwing balls at it.
    • If you run out of Poke Balls, get defeated or faint it, reset. In case you don't know the drill, always save before attempting to catch a very rare Pokémon if you can (which you can with Giratina before talking to it).
  13. You did it! Once you have caught Giratina, give yourself a pat on the back for it.

Tips

  • You need to have the National Dex for the Spring Path to appear on Route 214 and in order to obtain Giratina.
  • Bring Repels, Escape Ropes, Revives, and health potions.
  • If you know anything about Pokémon Black and White, you know the three orbs you can obtain represent Dialga, Palkia, Giratina- the three legends of Sinnoh (although there is still Regigigas, Arceus, and Darkrai).
  • Be sure to train your Pokémon before this awesome battle.
  • Catch a strong Noctowl outside the cave before battling Giratina. Noctowl is immune to two of Giratina's moves, and it can learn Hypnosis from the Move Relearner to help you catch Giratina.

Warnings

  • Be very careful- there are level 50-70 Pokémon and Giratina is level 70. You need to have strong Pokémon who can survive until you get to Giratina. Healing items are recommended. Max Repels also work just fine.

Things You'll Need

  • A DS, 3DS, 2DS, or New 3DS
  • Pokémon Pearl or Diamond
  • The HMs Rock Climb and Defog
