Change a Timing Belt on a 4G63

Changing a timing belt is a real precise job. It can be either very difficult or very easy with no in between.

Steps

  1. Remove accessory pulleys.
  2. Remove accessory cover.
  3. Loosen tensioner pulley.
  4. Remove auto-tensioner.
  5. Remove belt.
  6. Line up timing marks on gears and install a new belt.
  7. Compress the tensioner and then reinstall.
  8. Tighten the tensioner pulley.
  9. Reinstall the accessory cover.
  10. Reinstall the crank and timing pulleys.



Warnings

  • Make sure all timing marks are lined up or your motor will not run correct.

Things You'll Need

  • Vise
  • Small Allen key or something to hold compressed tensioner
  • 10mm Socket
  • 12mm Socket
  • Short Extension
  • Ratchet
  • 14mm Socket
