So you want to change your Tumblr URL? Maybe you're tired of your old one, or you think a new one might better capture what you're trying to convey to others. Changing your Tumblr URL (a.k.a. Steps

Change Your Tumblr URL

  1. Understand what happens when you change your URL. After you change your URL, Tumblr will automatically update all of the pages associated with your blog, as well as any individual posts, to incorporate your new URL.
    • Any built-in links (which lead from one page or post to another), as well as default pages like the "Archive" page, will also be updated automatically.
    • However, any links that you entered personally - such as links in your blog description or outside links which direct to your Tumblr page - you will need to manually update yourself.
  2. Go to the URL you want to change yours to. Make sure it isn't already in use.
  3. Visit your Tumblr dashboard.
  4. Click on the person icon at the top of the page.
  5. Click on the Gear marked "Settings."
  6. Click on the pencil next to Username.
  7. Type in the new username you want.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Create a post informing your followers of the change.
  10. Place the post in your queue a number of times. You will have to reblog it as many times as you want it queued.
    • Make sure your queue is set to post frequently throughout the day, and once or twice tomorrow.

Direct People from the Old URL to the New One

  1. Click on the person icon at the top of the page.
  2. Click on the Gear marked "Settings."
  3. Click "Create a New Blog".
  4. Fill in the form. Use your old URL, and in the title direct visitors to the new URL.



Warnings

  • Any links to your old blog that people have posted, re-blogged, or bookmarked will be lost.
  • Newer Tumblr accounts may not have access to the Redirect option. Only older accounts can perform the Redirect option.
