Delete a Blog on Tumblr

Is your Tumblr old and busted? Is it beyond saving, and more suited to being blasted from existence and starting from scratch? It’s not exactly easy to find, but follow this guide to delete your blog, any secondary blogs, or your entire Tumblr account.

Steps

  1. Log in to Tumblr. If you are deleting your primary blog, you will be deleting your account as well. If you are deleting a secondary blog, it can’t have any members or else it won’t be deleted.
  2. Open the Account settings. This can be opened by clicking the Gear icon at the top of the page.
  3. Select the blog that you want to delete. Your blogs will be listed on the left side of the page. Secondary blogs can be deleted as long as there are no other administrators. Deleting your primary blog will also delete your account.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. You will see a “Delete This Blog” (secondary blog) or “Delete Account” (primary blog) button. Click the button to continue the deletion process.
    • If you are deleting a secondary blog, you will first leave it. If the blog still has other administrators, it will not be deleted, but will be unlinked from your account.
    • If you are deleting a primary blog, and therefore your account, you will have to enter your Tumblr Url, email address, and password again. Any premium skins that you've purchased will be deleted as well. You can email Tumblr support before deleting your account to have any themes transferred to another blog.
    • Any remaining Tumblr credits will be deleted.[1]

Tips

  • If all you want is for no one else to see your blog, you can password protect it (however, this only works for secondary blogs, not main ones).
  • If Google Reader has cached your blog entries, you might want to consider editing all of them to empty entries (as well as editing the dates so Google Reader can notice the change), because otherwise everyone who subscribes to the RSS on Google Reader will still be able to read them.
