Change the Computer Time and Date Using the Command Prompt
On today's computers, the time and date can be easily changed through the control panel clock display. You can also change it using the command prompt! This article article will teach you to do this using easy to understand steps.
Steps
Windows 7
- Open the command prompt:
- Click Start.
- Type "command prompt."
- In the results, click on Command Prompt.
- Type the word "time". Type a space, and enter the new time in the following format:
- HH:MM:SS AM/PM. For example, time 5:34:00 PM, time 12:15:00 AM, etc.
- Press enter or return.
- Type the word "date". Type a space, then enter the new date in the following format:
- MM/DD/YYYY. For example, date 5/15/2009, date 2/14/1999, etc.
- Press enter or return.
- Check the clock in the bottom-right hand corner. The time should be successfully changed.
Windows Vista
- Open the command prompt:
- Click the Start button.
- Click on All Programs.
- Click Accessories.
- Click Command Prompt.
- Type the word "time". Type a space, and enter the new time in the following format:
- HH:MM:SS AM/PM. For example, time 5:34:00 PM, time 12:15:00 AM, etc.
- Press enter or return.
- Type the word "date". Type a space, then enter the new date in the following format:
- MM/DD/YYYY. For example, date 5/15/2009, date 2/14/1999, etc.
- Press enter or return.
- Check the clock in the bottom-right hand corner. The time should be successfully changed.
Windows XP
- Open the command prompt:
- Click Run.
- Type "cmd" then press enter or return.
- Type the word "time". Type a space, and enter the new time in the following format:
- HH:MM:SS AM/PM. For example, time 5:34:00 PM, time 12:15:00 AM, etc.
- Press enter or return.
- Type the word "date". Type a space, then enter the new date in the following format:
- MM/DD/YYYY. For example, date 5/15/2009, date 2/14/1999, etc.
- Press enter or return.
- Check the clock in the bottom-right hand corner. The time should be successfully changed.
Tips
- It may take a few tries to get this form of date and time changing down pat.
- The time and date must be entered in a fashion that is recognized by the computer.
