Choose a Boating Club
Joining a boating club or organization is a great way to enjoy boating and meet people who share the same passion as you do. If you’re thinking about joining a club, there are a few things that you might want to consider.
Steps
- Find a club where you boat. Do you live in one state but boat in another? Is your hometown landlocked but a watery escape just 20 minutes away? Join a club where you boat. The information and resources the club provides will be more applicable and chances are, you'll probably even find someone in the same boat as you, extending the social network to where you're traveling from in addition to where you travel to.
- Research Costs. How much is membership and what is included? Are there any additional monthly fees that you need to be aware of? Memberships at some clubs can be as little as $25 a year to costing you thousands a month, so make sure you know all the details before you join.
- Determine what you want out of a Boating Club. Does the club offer weekend boat trips? Where do they go? How many trips are planned a year? What events do they offer outside of boating season? Weekend trips to other clubs can be fun. Many clubs set weekend dates at certain local marinas in the area and spend the weekends at the marina on their boat. Some clubs even have a dinner dance once a month in the winter to keep all members active. In the summer, they have BBQ’s, corn roasts and other activities planned for us to enjoy.
- Check out the Facility. Do they have a club house where you can visit and socialize? Are they on the water so that you can visit the facilities by boat? Once you arrive by boat, are there things to do, such as a pool, bar or restaurant? Do they offer clean washroom/shower/laundry facilities? If you have children, do they have facilities where the kids may play?
