Clean Bronze

Bronze figurines, trophies and household items need a clean now and then. Here is a method to get it back to good condition.

Steps

Boiling Water Method

  1. Place the bronze item in boiling water in a large container.
  2. Rub the bronze item well with a piece of flannel cloth in soapsuds. Remove any marks or stains with gentle rubbing.
  3. Dry with a chamois leather. Make sure that it is completely dry to avoid the potential for deterioration.

Salt, Vinegar and Flour

  1. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt in 1 cup white vinegar. Mix in flour to create a paste.
  2. Take the bronze item and apply the paste evenly. Let it sit for 15 to 60 minutes.
  3. Rinse with warm water.
  4. Polish dry with a chamois cloth.[1]

Tips

  • Keep bronze free of dust and occasional stains on a regular basis. This will help maintain it well over time.

Warnings

  • Do not use these methods with lacquered bronze; only use a damp cloth occasionally and dust regularly with a duster.
