Connect Phone Jacks
This article is written for people who do not have any technical experience in connecting their telephone or Internet cable. Although phone jacks may refer to headphone jacks, we will be focusing on telephone and LAN (Local Area Network) jacks. These jacks are commonly known as RJ11 for telephone jacks and RJ45 for LAN jacks.

Steps
- Grasp the jack between index finger and thumb, the thumb being on the bendable part of the jack.
- Locate the orientation of the socket, may it be in the wall, at the back of a router, etc.. Some sockets may be positioned upside-down; in this case adjust your fingers accordingly. Some sockets also come with a covering, in that case you have to push open the covering with your nail and hold it open.
- Once you have finished that, take the jack and slowly but firmly push it into the socket. If, for some reason, it doesn't fit, check the orientation. If the jack looks too small or too large for the socket, you may be plugging into the wrong socket. If all goes well, when you let go, there should be a 'click' sound.
- Check that the jack is firmly secured into the socket by "gently" pulling at the cord.
Tips
- Although plugging in phone jacks may seem like a trivial thing to do in the modern world, problems with the jack DO occur, every now and then.
Warnings
- DO NOT push the jack in too hard.
