Convert JPG to PDF

Converting your images to PDF format can make them easier to catalog and send to others, and can making reading easier if the images are of text. Converting image files into PDFs only takes a few seconds, and there are a variety of options depending on which operating system you're using.

Steps

Windows 10

  1. Open the JPG image in the Photos program. This is the default program for opening images in Windows 10.
    • Note: This method will work in any program that can open image files in Windows 10.
  2. Click the "..." button and select "Print." You'll find the "..." button in the upper-right corner of the Photos window.
    • You can also press Ctrl+P.
  3. Select "Microsoft Print to PDF" as the printer. This will create a PDF file instead of actually printing the image.
  4. Select the page orientation. PDF files come in standard page sizes, so you'll want to pick either Portrait or Landscape to best fit your image.
  5. Click the "Print" button. This will open the Save Print Output As window.
  6. Give the file a name and select where you want to save it. When you click Save, the new PDF file will be created at the location you specified.

Windows 8 and Earlier

  1. Visit the CutePDF Writer page. Installing the CutePDF Writer plugin will allow you to create PDFs from any program that supports printing. This is the best free option for creating PDFs in Windows 8 and earlier versions.
    • Visit cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp using your web browser.
  2. Click the "Free Downloader" and "Free Converter" links. You'll find these on the right side of the page. These links will download the two necessary files.
  3. Run CuteWriter.exe. This will begin the installation process.
  4. Decline the two offers during installation. Read each screen carefully and decline the installation of additional software.
  5. Run converter.exe. This will install the software necessary to create PDF files in the background.
  6. Open the JPG file in any program. Open the JPG file in whichever program you would normally open it in.
  7. Open the Print menu. The location varies depending on the program you're using, but you can generally find this in the "File" menu. You can also press Ctrl+P in most programs.
  8. Select "CutePDF Writer" from the Printer menu. CutePDF acts as a virtual printer that will create a PDF instead of physically printing the image.
  9. Click the Print button and then save your new file. A few moments after clicking Print, the Save As window will appear. You'll be able to give your new PDF a name and select where you want to save it on your computer.

Mac OS X

  1. Open the JPG file in any program. Mac OS X includes the ability to create PDFs without any additional software or special programs. Just open the PDF file in whatever program you normally would.
  2. Open the Print menu. You can find this in the "File" menu or by pressing Command+P.
  3. Click the "PDF" menu in the lower-left corner and select "Save as PDF." This will open a new window.
  4. Give the PDF a name and location. You can name your new PDF whatever you'd like and select where you want to save it.[1]

Online Services

  1. Find an online conversion service. There are several companies that offer free converters that can quickly convert your JPG files into PDFs. These sites are free to use and make their money off of ads. These sites will work for any operating system. Some of the most popular sites include:

    • Convert My Image
    • smallpdf
  2. Upload your image. Click the "Choose File", "Upload", or "Select JPG File" button to browse your computer for files. On smallpdf, you can drag and drop your file into the browser window.
    • Some services have a file size limit. If you run into any limits, check the next method.
    • You may have to click a separate Upload button after selecting your files.
  3. Convert the file. Click the "Convert" button to start the conversion process. Some services will give you additional options such as margin size and page layout. The conversion process should only take a few moments.
  4. Download the file. once the conversion is finished, you will be given a link to your completed file. You can download it just as you would any other file. It will most likely have the same name as the original images, and sometimes the conversion company's name will be added to the file name.
