Corrupt a File on Purpose Using Corrupt a File.Net

Although it is usually an unfortunate event, corrupting a file can sometimes be useful. For example, you have to deliver a document today but it is not ready yet. A solution is to send a corrupted document, pretending it is the completed version. The recipient will not be able to open it, but the computer will appear as the culprit, not you.

Steps

  1. Produce a document to be corrupted. For example, if you owe a 20 pages report, but your report is only 3 pages long for now, type some additional 17 pages. Keep in mind the final document will be corrupted, so you can type at the keyword randomly or copy/paste the same paragraph again and again. This step makes sure your document has a realistic size.
  2. Go to Corrupt-a-file.
  3. In the form, select the document to be corrupted in your hard drive.
  4. Click the "Corrupt file" button.
  5. On the next page, click the "Download" link.
  6. As a test, try to open the document you have just downloaded. The corresponding software (eg. Word, PDF reader...) should indicate the file is damaged.
  7. The corrupted file is ready to be delivered, by email, USB key, etc.

Warnings

  • Keep in mind that delivering a corrupted file, pretending this is a valid file, is dishonest. Although you may find this trick useful once in your life, you should not practice it on a regular basis.
