Creating Your Own Superhero

  1. Begin by drawing inspiration from established superhero characters.
    • Classic characters include Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Wolverine, Thor, Green Lantern, Flash, and Wonder Woman.
    • Take note of the most commonly used character traits and abilities of established superheroes.
  2. Use your research and imagination to establish your superhero's specific abilities. Remember that the more creative you are, the more distinctive your character will be!
    • Your character's powers could include extreme strength, speed, or regenerative abilities, the ability to control an element or multiple elements (such as the weather or fire), or the unique power of your choosing.
    • Remember that some of the most memorable superheroes have no magical super power, yet excel in other ways, such as Batman.
  3. Establish and expand the world your character inhabits by creating your character's background, personality, and physical attributes. Come Up With Ideas.
    • One of the classic themes in superhero stories is the motif of the secret identity. Decide whether or not your character employs a second identity to hide their superhero activities.
    • Adding additional characters, such as a supporting side-kick character, will enhance the universe your superhero inhabits.
  4. Draw your superhero. Create your superhero on the page. If you can't draw, don't worry!
    • If you want to create a superhero simply for your own enjoyment, remember that any drawings you create are for no one but you, so don't feel pressured to achieve perfection.
    • If your ultimate goal is to create a comic book for others to read, practice drawing your character until you feel comfortable with how he or she looks and you're able to repeat the finished product multiple times. This process can also be constructive in creating costume and accessories for your superhero. Draw your character with as many different costumes as you can think of, then choose one distinctive option.
    • Consider using a computer or online program to design your character if you want to use common design elements for a professional look.

Tips

  • Be original. The more singular your superhero is, the more your individual imagination and creativity will shine through.
  • The more creative you are , the more distinctive your character will be.

Warnings

  • If your intention is to publish a comic book, be aware of potential copyrighted infringement. Finding inspiration from an established character is great, but don't copy another artists' work exactly.
