Create a Study Space for High School Girls

Every successful student needs a neat and organized place to study. A study space is needed to get good grades. Make it express your individuality and it will help save you time. Getting organized is key and it means more successful studying.

Steps

  1. Consider yourself and your study habits. Use your knowledge of yourself to determine where you should study.
  2. Make sure your space fits your needs. Choose a quiet area with few distractions. You will need:
    • A desk with ample working space and preferably several drawers.
    • A good desk lamp.
    • Shelving or magazine racks to organize papers.
    • A desk organiser.
    • A bulletin board, chalkboard or dry-erase board to write to-do lists and goals.
  3. Equip your desk with everything you need. Make sure you have:
    • Stationery supplies: pen, pencil, eraser, sharpener, stapler, hole punch, highlighter, sticky notes, paper clips.
    • A calendar to record goals, achievements and to plan ahead.
    • A clock to keep track of the time and a stopwatch to perform timed tests.
  4. Bring your study materials. Textbooks, blank paper, reference books .etc should all be to hand. It is also useful to keep a dictionary, thesaurus and calculator close by.

Tips

  • Don't put things near your study place that will distract you.
  • Keep your study area organized and tidy.
  • Section your bedroom. Use one area to study and other areas to relax and socialize. This will help you to focus.
  • Listen to music, but not music with words. If you know the words, you will be distracted with singing. Listen to instrumental music or classical.
  • You may want to listen to soft music while you study. Classical music has been found to be an effective study aid. But make sure you won't get distracted!
  • Another good tip is to put your study area somewhere separated from people or other things that would distract you so annoy you.
  • When organising have the different subjects in different places.

  • Remove distractions such as phones, internet, loud music, TVs.
