Create a Cozy Meditation Area in Your Bedroom

You only need a free corner in your bedroom to create a nook in your room where you can meditate, relax, and find serenity. Meditation is a great way to rid your body of stress and tension, center yourself, and introduce calm into your life. The right 'scene' is important and should be unique,an expression of you, and cozy.

Steps

  1. Dedicate a corner in your room to be your new meditation escape.
  2. Dust and cleanse the corner of impurities. A small table or stand is important for placing candles, incense, essential oils, flowers, or anything that you find to be calming in your life.
  3. Decide if simple and fuss-free is more your style, skip the table in favor of matted art of any variety. Just be sure that it all flows well together and isn't too overwhelming. Less is more!
  4. Use a framed or matted mantra as it will be helpful for someone new to meditation, as seeing it helps your mind focus on the words in their physical sense as well as the audio.
  5. Place a blanket on the ground or a floor cushion for padding. A folded yoga mat also works great.
  6. Try to pick a spot that is somewhat secluded; you don't want to be bothered by the other people or noise.

Tips

  • You may find that you prefer to be up against the wall, just make sure that no matter how you choose to sit, it is with your back straight
  • If noise is a problem, think about getting a white noise machine, such as a fan, something that makes constant unchanging, and usually unnoticeable, noise and blocks out other noise. You can also download free white noise mp3s.
  • Next to a window can be a nice treat, but remember that during meditation, the eyes are commonly closed.
  • Maybe put some relaxing music on.
  • Make sure to keep your surroundings clean and clutter-free.
