Crochet a V Stitch Scarf


Need a warm scarf? This pattern allows for any size Make Your Own Yarn as well as any size crochet hook. This is an open pattern that is quick and easy to assemble. Just follow these instructions:







Abbreviations

  • Sc = single crochet
  • Dc = double crochet
  • Fasten off = cut the thread leaving a long tail of thread to later be woven and hidden in between stitches

Steps

  1. Chain 18-20 stitches. Turn.
  2. Sc in the first chain, * skip one chain, (dc, chain 2, dc to make a v-stitch) in the next chain, skip one chain, sc in the next chain. Repeat from * three times. Turn. Four v-stitches will have been made.
  3. Chain 3, sc in the center of the first v-stitch, * (dc, chain 2, dc to make a v-stitch) in the next sc, sc in the center of the next v-stitch. Repeat from * twice. Dc in the last sc. Turn. Three v-stitches will have been made between the four v-stitches of the previous row.
  4. Sc in the first dc, (dc, chain 2, dc to make a v-stitch) in the next sc, * sc in the center of the next v-stitch, (dc, chain 2, dc to make a v-stitch) in the next sc. Repeat from * twice. Sc in the top of the chain-3 of the previous row. Turn. Four v-stitches will have been made between the three v-stitches of the previous row.
  5. Repeat Step 3 followed by Step 4 until desired length.
  6. Fasten off.
  7. Finished.

Tips

  • Add a row of trim or tassels to each end of the scarf.
  • When finished, stitch around the entire scarf with different colors of yarn and with a variety of trim, if desired.

    • To make a shell trim: sc, skip 2 stitches, 5 dc in the next stitch to make a shell, skip 2 stitches and repeat.
    • To make an open shell trim: sc, skip 2 stitches, (chain one, dc, chain one, dc, chain one, dc, chain one to make an open shell) in the next stitch, skip 2 stitches and repeat.
  • A skinny scarf can be made with three v-stitches instead of four.
  • Try variations of the v-stitch. Skip two chains (instead of one) in the first row.

    • dc, chain 3, dc
    • 2 dc, chain 2, 2dc
