Crop Pages in a PDF Document

When you have a PDF composed of pages of different sizes, you may want crop your pages to create a unified look. This article will teach you to use Adobe Acrobat X to crop pages in a PDF document and will also show you how to crop pages using Preview if you have a Mac.

Crop Margins Around Page Elements Using Adobe Acrobat X

  1. Choose Tools > Pages > Crop in Adobe Acrobat X.
  2. Find Margin Controls. Select "Remove White Margins."

Crop A Single Page or Multiple Pages in Adobe Acrobat X

  1. Select Tools > Pages > Crop.
  2. Look for the pop-up menu in the upper left corner.
    • Make sure Crop Box is selected, and then adjust the top, bottom, right and left Margin Controls.
    • Check the thumbnail page display. The black rectangle will tell you where the new page boundaries are.
  3. Find "Change Page Size." Select the options that are right for your PDF and specify a page range.

Use the Crop Tool in Adobe Acrobat X to Crop Pages

  1. Under Tools, choose "Pages" and then "Crop."
  2. Drag a rectangle onto the page that you wish to crop. Drag the corners of the rectangle as needed to adjust the page size.
  3. Double-click inside the cropping rectangle that you've drawn. You will see the "Set Page Boxes" dialog box, which will show the margin specifications for the cropping rectangle as well as for the page that you are cropping.
  4. Make adjustments with the dialog box. When the PDF looks like you want it to look, then click "OK."

Crop PDFs Using Preview on a Macintosh

  1. Open your PDF in Preview.
  2. Click "Rectangular Section" on the top right corner of the toolbar.
  3. Drag the rectangle around the part of the image that you want to preserve. The area outside of the rectangle will cropped from the PDF.
  4. Click Tools > Crop or click Command-K. Preview will then crop your PDF.

Tips

  • If you're using Adobe Acrobat X and you don't like the look of your cropped PDF, then go to Options > Crop Pages and open the "Set Page Boxes" dialog box. Then reset the margins back to their initial settings.
    • Using undo (shortcut: CTRL + Z) make be sufficient as well.
  • When using Preview: If you want to crop multiple pages at once, simply select the area you want to crop in one page, and select all the pages you want to crop through the thumbnails before clicking "Crop".
