Curl Your Hair with Knots

Curls have been a popular way to style your hair throughout the centuries, from queens to maids. And now, you! An easy way to create curls without damaging your hair with curling irons or chemicals is by knotting you hair! Don't worry, your hair won't end up in a frizzy, knotted mess; at least it won't if you follow these steps!

Steps

Quick Method

  1. Make sure your hair is tangle-free.
  2. Using a comb or brush, get a small section of top-layer hair.
  3. Wrap the section of hair around your thumb and middle finger, then pull the end through. This should create a knot.
  4. Secure the knot on top of your head with a bobby pin.
  5. Repeat steps until the whole top-layer of hair is knotted and secured with a bobby pin.
  6. Wet your hand and gently pat water onto the knotted and bobby-pinned hair.
  7. Get your hair dryer out and set it to warm, then turn it on low. Don't turn it on high, because it will blow your bobby-pinned hair everywhere, and mess up all of your hard work!
  8. Hold the hair dryer over each knotted hair strand for about five seconds each.
  9. Unpin each knot. If some strands do not unknot immediately, gently un-knot them with your fingers.
  10. Apply a small mist of hair spray or put a little hair gel on the curls, to help hold their shape.
  11. Congratulations! If you followed the steps correctly, you should have beautiful curls in your hair.

Overnight Method

  1. Brush your hair out, free of tangles.
  2. Separate a small section of your hair from the rest of your hair using a comb or brush.
  3. Wrap it around your index and middle fingers, and pull the end through (Yes, this does create a knot in your hair). Secure the knot with a bobby pin.
  4. Repeat until you have done this to all of the top layer of your hair.
  5. Dampen your hair slightly before getting in bed by patting water onto each knot. This will help the curls shape themselves.
  6. Leave the knots in overnight.
  7. Remove the bobby pins when you wake up and, if the knot does not come undone automatically, gently un-knot your hair.
  8. Apply a small mist of hair spray or put a little hair gel on the curls, to help hold their shape.
  9. Enjoy your new curls!

Tips

  • Don't brush the curls out afterward; they will lose their shape!
  • This may take a long time, depending on what how much you have done this. Take your time, and you will be rewarded!
  • This works best with the quick method, because the overnight one can result in a mess!
  • Use a boar bristle brush to add shine to your hair.

Warnings

  • Don't hold the hair dryer on your hair too hard, or you'll damage your hair.
  • Don't pull the knots too tight.
