Cycle in Your Town or City (for Girls)
Cycling isn't just for guys! Girls can be cyclists as well and can excel at the sport.
Steps
- Wear comfortable casual clothing. Check out your local bike shop for cycling specific clothing.
- Keep in mind some basic tips if you prefer to wear a skirt.
- It is best to sit on the skirt so it does not blow around in the wind. Tucking it underneath yourself and the seat is generally a good idea.
- Look for bike "skorts".
- If it is long, be careful so that it doesn't get caught in the wheels or the pedals.
- If it is short, it is recommended to wear shorts or leggings underneath.
- Start cycling carefully. Look around you and check for cars coming along as you leave the driveway or house.
- Be aware of pedestrians, other cyclists and cars. Be visible - wear bright clothes on dark days, add a flag to your bike, and always have lights. Check with your local traffic division for rules regarding riding on the sidewalk if there are not designated bike lanes in your city.
Tips
- Consider wearing a helmet. You can decorate a helmet slightly if you have an intense urge not to wear one because of looks.
- Before leaving for your journey make sure your bike is in good condition. Lubricate your gears and pedals, and make sure to check the air in your tires.
- If you are cycling and are involved in an accident, follow proper etiquette.
Warnings
- Be alert at all times. Negligence can cause you or someone else to become seriously injured or killed.
