Decorate a Bedroom Romantically

A bedroom is your sanctuary after a long day, a place to unwind, and curl up with your favorite book or magazine. Getting that perfect piece of heaven is easy to achieve no matter what your budget is.

Steps

  1. Choose a theme. A theme makes it easy to choose fabrics, colors, accessories, furniture, etc. Example: If you want a rose garden theme, your colors can be in pinks and reds to resemble the roses, greens to bring out the leaves in your fabrics or wallpaper or border, and so on.
  2. Paint or wallpaper according to your theme.
  3. Add fresh flowers for a romantic touch. You can have a vase of them beside your bed on a table, or simply lay them in a basket. On that basket, tie a coordinating ribbon onto the handle, or around the basket itself, but that's not mandatory.
  4. Throw pillows, old birdcages, artwork to match your theme, lace bedskirt or other lace items if you choose, even picture frames in your colors and theme.
  5. Don't use up a lot of floor space. This will make the room seem larger. Use wall shelves, or stack hat boxes or trunks in a corner to display mementos on top.
  6. Take advantage of unused wall space. You can lift clutter off the floor.
  7. Buy shelving. Many retail stores offer a wide selection of shelves, bookcases, and more. If you choose not to support such stores, you can a make your own shelving using the page Build Simple Floating Shelves.
  8. Try to keep your overhead lights off. Instead use candles or oil lamps for a soothing romantic touch.

Tips

  • Nobody says you have to be an artist, so instead of painting flowers, or whatever you choose, you can paint wood boxes, shelves, hatboxes, etc. with a coat of craft paint. Then go to your local crafts/home improvement store for wallies, or wallpaper borders, cut them out, and adhere them to your items. It's a quick " hand painted" look.
  • You can look in magazines for ideas, and to better understand the look you want to go for.
  • Let your imagination run wild.
