Decorate a Chain Link Fence for Christmas
There is nothing quite like the Christmas Holidays season, especially when it comes to decorating. A well-decorated chain link fence can light up your surroundings, and this can be achieved by, simply, adding just a little of this and that to it.
Steps
- Start out by carefully stringing some multi-colored lights a little below the top of the fence and facing the outer side. Use tie-downs or twist ties to hold the lights in place. (See tip below for the gate)
- Hang a large wreath on the front of the fence (facing the road or sidewalk). Hang a medium-size wreath on the gate. Use ties to hold both of them in place. You can use something stronger if needed, like twine or fishing line.
- Hang the other items to the outside of the yard (on the street-facing side of the fence) 4' to 5' apart. Use ties to hold them in place, or you can use fishing line.
- Use the same method to hang more items on the inside lengths of the fence that face into your yard.
- Drape Garlands, in bright green or red, across the fence and secure it with ties, so that it won't blow away...at the first sign of strong wind.
- Line up holiday plants along the fence, or tie them on around the fence.
Tips
- You can find really great buys at any local dollar stores on Christmas items that are suited to hang on fences outdoors. If you get really inexpensive things, they may not last more than one season, but that's why they were cheap!
- Bows, such as in red, can be used to accent the Garland...best if applied where that each loop begins...for outdoors use plastic bows. However, keep in mind that bows are not necessary, for you are using other items to accent the fence.
- You may need to take special care around the gate area when stringing the lights; a lot will depend on how your gate is made, such as if it has an arch way. The goal is to bring the lights up and over; if there is no arch, you'll need to rig something up (like a spike or a trellis) to hang lights off of, in order to be able to go in and out of the gate.
