Disable Router Firewall
Running a firewall on both your router(hardware firewall) as well as your computer(software firewall) can prove to be useful as you have multiple lines of defence when it comes to dealing with attacks. However, in rare cases, disabling the firewall on a router can resolve conflicts caused when both the router's firewall and the operating system's firewall are turned on at the same time. Steps
Obtain the Router's Default Gateway and IP Address
- Locate the default gateway and IP address for your router on a PC running any version of windows. You will need to locate either the router's default gateway or IP address, depending on the router's manufacturer, in order to access the router's web interface.
- Enter "cmd" into the search field from the start menu. With the command screen open, type "ipconfig /all" in the open field. The default gateway and IP addresses will be located under the IP configuration information. The default gateway and IP address have been obtained.
- Locate the default gateway and IP address for your router on a Mac running any version of Mac OS X. Click the Apple Icon on the far left of the menu bar and select the system preferences option from the pull-down menu. Now select "Internet & Wireless" from the network menu.
- Click the "Advanced" button in the Network dialogue box and open the TCP/IP tab. The default gateway address will be listed under Network. Write down the default gateway and IP address information, and exit the dialogue box. The default gateway and IP address have been located.
- Open the command screen and type "ip/config/all. The default gateway and IP address will be listed among the IP configuration information. The default gateway and IP address information has been obtained for Mac.
- Access your router's web interface using the default gateway. Use the default gateway number or IP address, depending on your router's specifications, to access the web interface for your router. Type the default gateway or IP address into the address bar of your Internet browser and press enter if not immediately directed to your router's web interface. The web interface will appear in your web browser window.
Disable the Router Firewall
- Locate the firewall settings for your router. The location of the firewall settings will vary depending on the manufacturer of the router. The firewall settings are typically located in the advanced settings menu or in the firewall menu of the router's web interface.
- Disable the firewall. Once you have located the firewall settings on your router's web interface, highlight the option or place a check in the box labeled "Disable" to turn off the router's firewall. Click yes if prompted to confirm the changes. The firewall has been disabled.
