Do the Vulcan "Live Long and Prosper" Sign
Act Like Mr. Spock, a fictional Vulcan in Star Trek, is a well-known Vulcan who was one of the first to share the Vulcan Peace Sign. The following direction will help anyone greet someone with the peace sign. This is handy for Star Trek cons or perhaps a visiting alien or two. You should hold your pointer and middle finger together, and move it away from your ring and little finger, with the thumb separated.
Steps
- Get a block of wood (or something similar, a water bottle can work) and wrap it in a hand towel.
- Place this in between your middle finger and ring finger.
- Leave it there approximately for a half hour.
- Remove the block of wood after about 30 minutes and you should be able to do this hand trick easily.
- Another way to practice this is to try splitting the two fingers so they are in pairs.
- Open the pairs of two fingers to form a "V" in the center. Practice this regularly and the Vulcan Salute will become easy to make.
- Make sure that the thumb is not against the hand, but away from it. If it is touching the hand this is Mork's "Na-Nu Na-Nu" greeting and not the Vulcan's Live Long and Prosper greeting.
- Another way to do this is to tape your fingers together with some scotch tape before you go to bed. Then in the morning just remove the tape.
Tips
- Put on a movie while practicing this. This makes the practice so much easier.
Warnings
- Don't leave the block of wood in place too long or it may result in injury.
- Do not tape too tightly.
- After taping, your muscles may feel sore. Try wiggling them around for a bit.
