Dodge a Blue Shell in Mario Kart Wii
This article will show you how to dodge that disastrous Blue Shell in Mario Kart! Whether you are playing the classic Mario Kart 64 or Super Mario Kart games or the modern Mario Kart 7 and 8 games, this guide will help you fight against those dreaded blue shells!
Steps
- Get a mushroom (speed boost) power. Wait until the Blue Shell is right behind you, then use it. This works much better with a golden mushroom (King Power), as you can press it over and over making sure you do it at the right moment.
- Use a Star to become invincible. This is very uncommon, especially in 1st place so you are more likely to achieve this through Lucky 7 and/or Crazy 8.
- Fall into lava, water, fall off cliff or edge etc. Be sure not to waste more time than if you would have just took the shell in!
- Pass the finish line on final lap.
- If you are playing Mario Kart 8, the Super Horn can easily destroy the Blue Shell. Too bad it isn't that common.
- To not slow down as much, go off a ramp.
Tips
- If there are Karts close behind you, use the brakes to catch them in the shell.
- Timing is everything!
- Look at your surroundings! In Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 8, a beep with a blue shell image at the bottom of the screen will show you when the blue shell is coming. In Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 7, look at the touch screen. MK7 also has the warning beep.
- The star is on the Rainbow Road track.
Warnings
- You can get hit if you are too close to the first place player. Steer off to the side or just slow down to avoid the explosion.
- You can get hit even if you're not in first. As long as you're in first when the shell is fired, it will target you.
- If you are not anywhere near first but see a blue shell warning, don't worry: it isn't coming for you.
- With The exception of Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart Wii, the blue shell may hit you when it travels along the ground as well!
