Download Free Games on Nintendo DS

If you have perhaps lost a DS game or one of your favorites got damaged, you may be wondering if you can download the game and avoid having to buy it again. The answer to that question is yes! Read below to find out how to download DS games for free! This method works for the DS, DS Lite, 3DS, etc.

Steps

1. Get the necessary parts. You can download just the games and an emulator if you want to play a game on your computer, but if you want to play the games on a DS, you'll need some extra equipment. The main thing you'll need is an R4 DS card and a microSD card. These can be easily purchased online. An adapter for the microSD will also be necessary if your computer does not have a built in slot.
   • Watch out for fake or knock-off R4 cards. These won't work well or sometimes at all.
2. Download the games you want from reputable sites. You need to search the net for the "rom" or digital file for the game you want (for example, "Pokémon Black rom"). Websites like CoolRom and RomHustler are a good place to start.
   • Make sure the file you end up with is a .nds file.
   • Be aware that you cannot usually "play down" games. The game you play must be on the DS it was intended for or higher. Playing a 3DS game on a regular DS won't usually work.
3. Transfer the nds file to the microSD card. Copy the file from wherever you saved it to the card.
4. Put the microSD card into the R4 card.
5. Put the R4 card into the DS. This can be done like a normal game.
6. Play the game! You select the option to play the card, just like you would any game. You then have the choice of what game to play of those that are stored on the card. Choose which you want and play it!

Tips

• Try playing really old games. You'd be surprised how fun they are!

Warnings

• The updated 3DS may cause this method not to work.
• Some games, like Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, may not work because the game has anti piracy.
• The current version for *new* NINTENDO 3DS is 11.0, you have to downgrade to 9.2 to use this method.
