Drawing waves of the ocean are one of the many things a young artist needs to be able to draw. Drawing waves represents peace, flow, and nature. Have fun!

Steps

Traditional Realistic Waves

Realistic waves are easy to draw since they follow a pattern. Just follow these simple steps.

  1. Draw the contrasting colors of light blue and darker blue. If you want, you could even change the colors! Oceans don't have to be blue now, do they? Let your creativity fly free!
  2. Draw curve lines above the darker blue color to depict waves.
  3. Refine the details to resemble real waves.
  4. Draw further details using curve lines.
  5. Refine the color using even darker blue in the waves.
  6. Use white color to provide contrast in the waves.
  7. Draw curve lines which are concave downward using shades of blue.
  8. Draw more waves and render details for the background.

Realistic Cartoon Waves

Realistic waves are easy to draw since they follow a pattern. Just follow these simple steps.

  1. Draw partial oblongs or circle from the bottom part of the page.
  2. Draw circles on top of the first layer and which overlap them at the sides.
  3. Draw another layer of circles which overlap the first two layers.
  4. Trace with a pen and erase unnecessary lines. Add details.
  5. Color to your liking and resemble real cartoon waves.

Sketch-Style Waves

  1. Draw curved line.
  2. Add another curved line.
  3. Draw two shorter lines and few small curved lines.
  4. Now add few lines, as shown.
  5. Add more small curved lines to mark wave foam.
  6. Draw a big rectangle around the whole drawing.
  7. Make some parts of the drawing looking fainter by using the razor gum.
  8. Start coloring.
  9. Finished.

Cartoon Waves

  1. Create two rings on both the bottom part of the page.
  2. Draw another big ring on top of the left bottom ring.
  3. Join the inner and outer rings with a line for all the three rings.
  4. Erase the rest of the rings so that waves are formed.
  5. Join with curve lines to the bottom part of the rings.
  6. Add some ovals to create splash and bubble effect.
  7. Darken the outlines.
  8. Erase the unwanted lines.
  9. Color and shade the waves.
  10. Color the background.

Simple Waves

  1. Draw at the bottom with the curves facing upwards.
  2. Draw similar semi circles with curves facing downwards on top of the previous semicircles touching the edges.
  3. Continue the process and draw semi circles in the reverse order as shown.
  4. Add some more lines on top of the semi circles.
  5. Start creating a wavy line by darkening the edges of the semicircles.
  6. Keep doing the same for the rest.
  7. Erase the unnecessary lines.
  8. Color with different shades of blue.
  9. Add color to the sky.
