Dress up As a Witch for Halloween

Every Halloween people struggle to find a terrific costume! So why not be a witch? It's classic, interesting and loads of fun!

Steps

  1. Gather all things from the "things you'll need" list below.
    • Costume Take your pencil and a tracing paper, trace out the look you'll need. Make it simple and easy to sew. Make sure you take the appropriate measures and materials. Then with the help of a friend or adult (if you are a child) start sewing and cutting! It doesn't have to be an Oscar winner, just good enough for one night. Make sure again that it looks ragged.
    • Make-up Gather the baby powder and green food colouring or any sort of face make-up and paint your whole face green. The principle colours are: Green and Black.
    • Fake nails: Glue them on and paint them black or dark red. It gives the dramatic effect.
  2. Hair: mess it up and make it in any sort of way you like as long as it looks crazy.
    • Hat, cut your cardboard in to a round shape and then another that is bigger. Measure your head circumference and just roll the bigger circle into a dome and tape it up. With your pencil, trace the diameter of the dome (base) onto the smaller circle, then cut that circle out and tape the two pieces together. Paint it black and you've a hat!
  3. Mix the baby powder and green food colouring with water to give it a paint-like paste for the face.Make sure the make-up is scary and extraordinary. Add a huge black spot on your nose for the look of a mole. Witches are scary and ugly…

Tips

  • If you want to be a good witch, then ignore all the steps above, and follow these instead.
  • Shoes cannot be clumpy, they must be elegant, stiletto's are good, but if they are too hard to walk in, then thin wedges, pumps, pointy toes shoes with reasonably thin heels are also acceptable. The heels shouldn't be too high, but heel-less shoes are also good, as long as they are the correct size and don't slip off. This is especially important with strapless shoes, as they fall off easily.
  • Skirts are normal attire for good witches as are cardigans, in pale shad
  • If you're a good witch, then your hair could be in ringlets, or curly. It should be away from your face, preferably with wispy bits around your face to soften the look.
  • Other clothes you could use are:
  • In case you are cold, bring a shawl, preferably loose knit so your skin is visible, it is striking and looks spooky with purple or red as a shirt underneath. Poncho's are also good.
  • You first have to put together a selection of clothes that are spooky. A corset or bodice would be good, depending on the colours - you don't want to have a pink and lilac corset with ribbons! Purple, black and red are good colours to use, they imply danger and are basically scary.
  • A hat isn't essential, but it adds to your outfit. If you're a good witch, then it's not going to work, but if you're a bad witch, a wide brimmed black one is good.
  • Long, sweeping skirts, probably black, with ribbons or other accessories like net over them, that adds to dramatic effect.
  • Long sleeved clingy shirt with loose sleeves. You could cut the sides open up to about ten centimeters above the hem, and sew material, preferably the colours mentioned above, underneath.
  • A good witch is normally dressed in pastel shades, and kitten heels are good for that.
    • If you want to bring a broomstick, it can't be old and mouldy, that only works for bad witches, so it should be new and clean.
  • If you're a bad witch, then your hair should be dark, if you're blond then get spray on colour.
