Eclipse Your Competition at a Job Interview
Have you ever experienced that feeling of overwhelming uncertainty when you are waiting to hear back from a company after your second interview? You know that it is between you and one other person. Both of you have the same skill set and background experience, and the employer is making a decision at this very moment.
Steps
- Always carry out an in depth search for as much information as possible about the company. Knowing about the company's business and work ethics shows that you are interested in the business and its operations.
- Before the interview buy enough professional looking portfolios to give to each of the interviewers.
- A week or so before the interview start gathering all the documents that you will put into the portfolios. For instance:
- Copies of all your qualifications
- Copies of any special certificates and awards
- Any additional material, such as diagrams, drawings or any project summaries
- References from previous employers
- Evidence of feedback from clients in your previous employments
- Always use a professional font and a good quality paper in your portfolios.
- Plan the outfit you are going to wear for the interview well in advance. For a professional role both men and women should dress in an appropriate way. Chose a simple suit and ensure your shoes are clean.
- You should be well groomed and women should avoid wearing too much makeup and jewelry. Keep it simple.
- When arriving for your interview give out your portfolio to the interviewers.
- Remember to use the interviewers name if you know it. Remember not to be over familiar or make jokes and be courteous.
Tips
- Even if the employer has a casual dress code, still wear smart clean clothes.
- Turn up for the interview on time.
