Encourage a Retired Relative to Find a Hobby

Steps

  1. Talk to them about how you would like them to start a hobby. Ask them what they like and what they are interested, for instance, if they are interested in music suggest they start playing a instrument.
    • Take them to classes for things they are interested in so they can get a good idea of what it's like.
  2. Get them all the things they need. When they start a hobby, make sure they have all the things they will need, like wool, an instrument, a book, pencils...
  3. Encourage them. Check up on them and see how they are going. Make sure they don't need anything and see what they have done so far. Tell them you are proud of them and they are doing really well.
  4. Celebrate. Once they have done the hobby for a while they should have something to show for it, like an artwork, being able to play a song, a piece of clothing or new knowledge. Take them out for dinner or come round with a present to celebrate.
