Enjoy Breakfast Cereal Without Milk

Have you ever faced a bowl of dry cereal one fine morn, knowing that there is no milk at home? Or are you lactose intolerant and can't eat your cereal with milk? Either way, here's a whopping bunch of ideas that will not only help you enjoy cereal without milk, but make you crave for a milk-free cereal ever after.

Ingredients

  • Cereal like corn flakes

For the Parfait

  • Dry, fresh or canned fruits
  • Assorted nuts
  • Yogurt
  • Anything else you have and would like in the parfait

For the Cereal Bar

  • Honey
  • Spices
  • Salt and Sugar

Steps

  1. Use fruit juice, coffee, tea or another kind of drink -- as if it were milk.
  2. Try sweetened sour cream; add sweet and sour fruit, tastes like sherbet (in a cone).
  3. Put ice cream, or fresh/canned fruit on a bed of cereal -- and "Chomp!"

Make a Parfait

A time when there is no milk is a perfect time to make a parfait! Being highly versatile, you could make a parfait with no 'special' ingredients and yet get a delicious meal.

  1. Get out some cereal, fresh, dry and canned fruits, assorted nuts and yogurt.
  2. Take an empty glass and sprinkle some cereal at the bottom. Cover it with yogurt. Top with some fruits and nuts. Repeat the process if desired to develop layers.
  3. You could also use chocolate sauce, honey, jams, preserves, crushed cookies, pieces of cake, etc. Let your creative juices flow as you create your very own parfait.

Make a Cereal Bar

Making cereal bars out of cereal is extremely simple.

  1. Get some cereal out and mix with dried fruits and nuts.
  2. Heat some honey on a low flame and keep stirring. Add some spices, a pinch of salt and sugar if you would like to add more flavour to your bar.
    • Use more honey if you like your bar chewy, and use less honey if you want it crunchy.
  3. When the honey starts bubbling (this will take about 3-5 minutes), pour into the cereal. Use a spatula to combine them.
  4. Pour out into a flat, buttered (or lined with waxed-paper), rectangular pan and even out the top. Let the mixture set in the fridge for about 40 minutes before serving.

Eat It Plain

If you have absolutely nothing to eat along with it: no fruits in any form, nuts, yogurt, etc. , you might be left with the option of eating it plain. Here are some steps which, when followed, can make the experience smoother.

  1. Use a medium or small sized spoon. Cereal can sometimes be too dry to swallow easily and taking in smaller portions of it each time is recommended.
  2. Chew the cereal well and for longer. The extra mastication will break down the cereal into a smoother paste and the saliva will have more time to moisten the cereal. Once you are sure that the cereal in your mouth is soft and moist, swallow it.
  3. Repeat the procedure until the cereal bowl is empty.
