Steps
- Research on houseboat operators in the Alappuzha district and fix the travel dates. A houseboat ride would be an extolling experience if undertaken during the monsoon season.
- If you are not an Indian, get a tourist visa from the nearest Indian Embassy/Consulate.
- Fly to the Cochin International Airport (COK) from any cities in India or abroad. Kochi (Cochin) is well connected by roads, rail and by air to all major Indian cities.
- Take a cab to the famed Alappuzha district, dubbed the Venice of the East. The distance is about {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} from the airport.
- Meet your houseboat operator and ensure that a chef/cook is available with you on the ride.
- As boat travels along the backwaters, enjoy the view of the low hanging coconut palms, the birds that visit the fields and the folk songs of the rice plantation workers.
- Enjoy the Kerala cuisine cooked by your on board chef and drink fresh toddy in the monsoon.
Tips
- Ask for pearl spot fish baked in plantain leaves.
- Drink toddy fresh from the coconut tree (if available).
