Enter a Web Page That Doesn't Open
Template:AttentionWant to visit a website that has been taken down? This is a quick way to view archived versions of websites.
Steps
- Go to www.archive.org
- Type in the web address (URL) of the site you want to see.
- Click "Browse History".
- Use the year slider at the top of the page to select a date range, then click on any of the highlighted dates shown in blue - they indicate days on which the website was archived. Click the most recent date to see the website as it was most recently before being taken down.
Tips
- The archived version of a website accessed through the Way Back Machine will most likely be outdated - try a Google search for the website name to see if there is a newer webpage or URL
- Not all websites are archived by the Way Back Machine, especially small and low-traffic sites
- You can use this tool to look up older versions of existing websites as well as ones that have been taken down
Warnings
- Photos may not load
- Links may be broken
- Forms and order information will not work on websites that is no longer "live"
- Most social networking sites are not stored in the archive
- Dynamic sites using databases (such as MySQL) or Server Scripting Languages will not have dynamic content
