Find Bike Routes
Template:Stub Biking is a healthy and environmentally sustainable commuting practice sport, but viable commuting routes are often hard to find. This article outlines some basic ways to find practical routes in your local area.
Contents
Steps
- Consult friends and colleagues in the surrounding area.
- Frequent road users, whether drivers or cyclists, have a better spatial understanding of the local terrain and may be able to tell you which roads are safe for bikes.
- Search online resources
- Check town or city websites for bike paths, trails and lanes.
- Use Google Maps to approximate the duration of a proposed route. Ensure to select the tab with an image of a bicycle after inputting start and end points (default routes and time estimates assume the user is traveling by car).
- Visit the websites of local bike clubs and groups. These sites, while not always providing information about routes directly, can put you in touch with established bikers in the area.
- Explore. Become familiar with routes before implementing them into your daily commute.
Warnings
- Try to avoid main roads or routes that are poorly maintained, as these paths may be unsafe or could damage your bike.
