Fix a Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo

Relatively old, turbo charged cars can face many problems. That said, if you're reading this because you've got a broken down Mitsubishi, that's pretty special.

Steps

  1. Check the turbo itself. Is there any loss of boost? If there is, it's likely your turbo has been completely run down.
  2. Check for any oil underneath.
    • If you find any leaks, use a UV dye to determine where the oil leak is coming from.
  3. Check for any fuel leaks. This could mean you have a cracked fuel pipe.
  4. Is there a whining noise? This could be the flywheel. (In a very poor state.)
  5. If there is a screeching noise when you first start the car, this means the fan belt is worn and needs replacing.
  6. General checks around the car could give you clues. Sometimes these things just need a bit of attention.

Tips

  1. Be true to yourself. A mechanic will be worth the time. He/she will tell you the real cause of the problem. These tips are just common faults with turbo charged cars.

Tips

  • Your instrument cluster will show you a boost gauge. Check it's activity regularly to see if there is a difference in pressure.

Warnings

  • Watch yourself. Wear surgical gloves when messing under the bonnet.
