Fix a Pen Drive Corrupted With Virus

Here are some recommendations (NB; this will only work under XP; as the utility used is no longer supported by HP and is not vista compatible)

Steps

  1. Make sure before you start your computer has fully updated antivirus, otherwise it will be fun for you...
  2. Download the HP usb disk utility from the link on http://www.bay-wolf.com/usbmemstick.htm
  3. Scan the file for a virus and then install it
  4. Run the HP usb utility, and format the usb drive (to FAT32 file format)
  5. Notice if the USB drive is not recognized by the utility. This is bad news; the USB drive is dead. This is very unlikely to have happened as a result of virus activity, and is more likely to be because of use, but either way, time to give up on it.
