Fix a Torn Shower Curtain Hole

Have you ever had a shower curtain you love and find that one of the holes has ripped so that the ring is no longer attached at that hole? Instead of throwing out your shower curtain and buying a new one, it is easy to fix.

Steps

Metal Strip Method

  1. Get a little strip of metal about {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} long. The metal should be in the shape of an "L" or "U".
  2. Cut off 1/2" of metal and crimp it tightly along the upper edge of the curtain.
  3. Place shower curtain ring in the hole and rehang.

PVC Cement/Hot Glue Method

  1. Leave the shower curtain up while you work, if you want to. Use a small ladder, if needed.
  2. Remove the shower curtain ring.
  3. Clean the area to remove soap and oil film.
  4. Place a strip of masking tape behind the ripped area, fixing the curtain so that the edges of the rip mate together.
  5. Prime the area by applying PVC Primer with a brush. Do not use too much.
  6. Glue area with PVC Cement.
  7. Plug in the glue gun and wait until it gets hot. This will allow time for the PVC Cement to dry.
  8. Apply hot glue over the area.
  9. Wait until the glue has really set (about an hour).
  10. Remove masking tape.
  11. Place shower curtain ring in the hole and rehang.

Packing Tape Method

  1. Place a piece of clear packing tape sticky side up on a table.
  2. Lay the shower curtain on top of the tape, centering the hole on the tape and aligning the curtain so that the sides of the tear meet.
  3. Fold the tape over the hole so that the hole is completely covered by the tape.
  4. Use a hole punch to re-punch the shower curtain hole.
  5. Place shower curtain ring in the hole and rehang.



Tips

  • The PVC method can be used for other plastic repairs such as sunglasses.

Warnings

  • Cement and primer are extremely flammable. Do not breathe in fumes. Turn ceiling fan on if working in bathroom. For extensive repairs, work outside.
  • Do not get cement or primer on skin.
