Save Time by Shaving in the Shower
This article is about shaving the face in the shower for men. Shaving the face in the shower saves time and water. It can even yield a better shave than using the sink.
Steps
- Get wet, head to toe.
- Apply shampoo to hair.
- Use a dab of the shampoo suds to clean the shower mirror (this step seems necessary with even the finest fog-free mirror eventually).
- Wash face, then lather face with shave cream or gel, or just use bath soap.
- Lather body with soap - take your time, this gives the shave cream time to soften your beard.
- Shave your face, rinsing razor as needed in the shower stream. Shave cheeks first, neck next, and finally the upper lip and chin. This order is important as it leaves the toughest whiskers til last, giving them more time to soften.
- Rinse head to toe.
- Dry your face and apply after shave and moisturizer.
- Get the heck out of there and head to work.
Tips
- Instead of rinsing the blade in the hot shower water, fill a cup with cold water and use this to rinse. For some reason, this seems to make for a smoother shave and longer lasting blades.
- It is helpful to wash your face after shaving, shower or otherwise, to rinse away any oily residue left behind from the shaving process.
- If you let the razor move to the side, you are applying the cutting edge and will slice yourself.
- You can massage your face with one hand to allow the shaving cream to work better for a minute or so.
- Grip the razor properly. Hold the last inch of the handle with 2-3 fingers. The razor is sharp enough to cut the beard. Your grip is just to direct the process. This grip keeps you from applying too much pressure. No more scraped skin!
Warnings
- Be careful not to rush too much! If you cut yourself, you will lose even more time trying to patch up the wound and clean up the blood.
Things You'll Need
- Shower mirror set at eye level.
