Fly Concorde in Flightgear

Concorde is one of the fastest airplanes in Flightgear and also one of the most fun to fly!

Steps

Take Off

  1. The first thing you need to know about Concorde is that you can lower the nose. There are no flaps on Concorde, so you control the nose like flaps.
    • Concorde's nose has four stages:
      • Nose and visor up - For Flying and Parking
      • Visor Down - For Subsonic Cruise
      • Nose 5 Degrees down - Taxiing and Take Off
      • Nose All of the Way Down - For Landing
  2. For Take Off Lower the nose to 5 Degrees down (The Third Stage)
  3. Align the Airplane to the runway
  4. Apply Full Throttle and Steer down the runway using the Rudder
  5. When you reach about 220 knots slowly pull back on the stick. When you are in the air bring the landing gear up and bring the nose up one step.
  6. Hold a climbing rate of about 2000 ft/min at around 250 knots.

Supersonic Cruise

  1. When you reach about {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} apply the afterburner (CTRL+F)
  2. Keep climbing until you reach Concorde's cruise altitude which is between 55,000 and 60,{{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}.
  3. Bring the nose up fully and keep accelerating until you reach Mach 2.0. Try not to go any faster.

Approach

  1. Start descending a few hundred nautical miles away from the airport.

Landing

  1. Start to slow down to about 175 knots and as you approach the runway, lower the landing gear and the nose fully.
  2. When the main gear touch down on the runway, activate reverse thrust (Ctrl+B) and apply full throttle until the airplane stops.
  3. Apply the parking brake and bring the nose up fully.

Tips

  • You should get used to flying airplanes like the Boeing 777-200ER before trying Concorde, to get used to the basic controls for flying.
