Do Pre Solo and Solo Flights in Aviation School

First solo is a fight that every pilot won't forget yet for most people are terrifying. To do a good solo flight (or First solo), you may use the following steps.

Steps

  1. Listen to your instructor. Do what your instructor tell you to do and fix any bad habit (eg: turn downwind too early hence a very close downwind leg)
  2. When you are able to make a perfect circuit pattern, and/or your instructor don't talk or touch your control anymore, that means your solo is coming soon. When your instructor don't talk, pretend that you are flying solo. That will help you to get used to the solo environment.
  3. When you fly solo, pretend your instructor is at your side, and talk out all checklist.
  4. Congratulations for your first solo!

Warnings

  • Don't over control
  • Although your instructor is not in the aircraft, that means making the aircraft lighter and hence it may go faster. Don't rotate until Vr speed (eg: C152/C172 or some similar aircraft: 55 knots), give yourself +5 knots buffer)
