Fly a FPV Multi Rotor

So you have a quad-copter or other multi-rotor, and you want to fly First Person View (FPV). Just read this and you will be on your way in no time.

Steps

Preparing to Fly

  1. Check that all your supplies are compatible.
    • If you need help, Google or post on a Facebook Group. There are thousands of people who would love to help you.
  2. Assemble it.
  3. Check legality. Making sure that what you are doing is legal is essential. The rules vary region by region, so check your local drone/quad-copter regulations.
  4. Adjust your frequency. Most people use 2.4ghz for control of the multi-rotor and so the only available legal frequency in the UK is 5.8ghz. It has a restriction though on power. The maximum for the TX is 25mw. This is ok if you have decent clover leaf antennas.
  5. Use common sense. Don't fly within five miles of an airport or near radio masts or power lines. Don't fly within {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of any object or person that you don't have direct control over.
  6. Don't take pictures of anyone and sell them. This requires a license.
    • There are too many regulations to list, do a quick Google. The CAA govern all of this in the UK.
    • There are different regulation for different parts of the country as well. Check with the local council about what you are doing.

Flying it

So you have connected everything up, and you are ready to go.

  1. Power up the multi-rotor and the goggles/monitor.
    • Note: Do not attempt to fly FPV without extensive knowledge of flying.
  2. Slowly throttle up and take off.
  3. Then, slowly use the roll, pitch and yaw to fly around carefully.
  4. Watch closely through the goggles and fly.
  5. Take it slow at first.

Advanced Flying

  1. To do a roll, first ensure you are on high rates.
    • Then Using the left stick (Mode 2) Push it to the right or the left and a little up.
