Have you ever wondered how to properly get dressed in the morning? Here is a guide on getting dressed aimed primarily at Westerners.

Steps
- Open the door or drawer to your wardrobe, closet, or dresser.
- Check the weather on the Internet or in the newspaper before you pick out your clothes. It will make a difference in what you choose to wear: heavier, thicker clothing for cold weather, or light, breathable clothing for warm weather. Alternatively, if available, look out of your window.
- Determine what you will be doing today. For example, will you be meeting friends, seeing your counsellor, attending business meetings, getting married, working on a building site, or just heading to classes? This will determine how formal or casual your attire will need to be.
- Pick your favorite outfit from the clothing that matches both the weather and your planned tasks for the day. If they were folded in a drawer, unfold the clothes that you have selected. If they were hanging on coat-hangers in your wardrobe, take them off the hangers.
- Put on underwear and undershirts if required. Make sure that you do not put your panties on backwards. This may cause a lot of discomfort if you are not used to wearing a thong.
- Put on your clothes. Step into your pants and put on your shirt, or put on a one-piece outfit.
- For shirts, make sure the shirt is not inside out (tag is generally on the inside), either pull your shirt down over your head, or put your arms into your shirt and close the buttons on the front.
- Dresses for women may require zipping or buttoning up along the side, back, or even front.
- Put on socks and shoes. Socks are not compulsory, especially with sandals. Make sure to tie laces in a double-knot.
Tips
- If you like to do fancy hairstyles in the morning, it's best to do them after getting dressed, because when you pull your shirt down over your head, it might mess up your fantastic style.
- Wear accessories, like jewelry, scarves, belts, headbands, and gloves. Make sure they match the outfit that you are wearing.
- Be sure you have a good variety of clothes to choose from. Make sure you have clothes and fashionable supplies for any possible weather situation. It's always best to be prepared and ready for anything, so dress in layers and pick clothing that is stain and wrinkle resistant.
- Make sure you have a nice, tidy and clean closet. You should have a neat closet so it's easier for you to choose your clothes and you don't have to see a closet tsunami! Most importantly, you should have a closet with the best clothes. The best clothes would usually be the clothes which are not torn and which have no stain. Let's not forget YOUR best clothes should be the ones that look good on you and you feel confident wearing them. Don't just wear anything which makes you feel uncomfortable like a sparkly top which is way down the closet. Anything at the bottom of your closet is definitely something you don't like. Also have sections in your closet (such as seasonal, unworn garments, or even brands like Aeropostale, if you have many garments from the same brand,) that might be helpful in organizing your closet and it's helpful to know what to wear for the appropriate weather (if you choose to organize your closet in a seasonal section.
- Be sure to adhere to any dress codes that may apply to your activities. Don't forget your uniform, tie, neck scarf, hat, safety boots, high-vis jacket or any other item that you are required to wear.
- Accessories tend to go after clothing.
- Don't listen to the Internet. Do it your way. How do you like getting dressed?
- If the outfit is scratchy, put an under shirt on. Bring an extra pair of clothes wherever you go- you never know when there might be an accident!
Warnings
- Wear your bra the right way or else you might look a little weird!
